What the Book is About

Photoshop Elements 8 For Mac The Missing Manual describes the tools of Photoshop Elements 8 and how they work. The book describes how to use Elements 8 to store and organize photos, to edit them, share them, and publish them.

Photoshop Elements 8 is very powerful but it leaves out instructions for getting started and figuring out when to use the various tools. Photoshop Elements 8 For Mac The Missing Manual fills that gap as a guidebook with color graphics to help the novice and expert user leverage the photo editing tools in Elements 8 to modify, repair, and restore, photographs. Summary topics include: Basics, Transforming, Quick fixes, Selecting, Layers, Retouching, advanced processing, modifying color, photomerging, drawing tools, filter effects, type, photo publishing projects, and additional topics.

Target Audience

This book helps both the amateur photographer and the more expert user, providing full color graphics and step-by-step instructions, which guide users from the basics to the more advanced techniques of using Photoshop Elements 8 for photo editing.

What to Expect

I'm a beginner with the advanced tools found in Elements and I appreciated the clear instructions and multiple ways of applying techniques to modify my photographs. It is a comprehensive guide that takes the user from the basics to the more sophisticated features, all in simple, easy to follow terms.

The roadmap that this book follows is logical. The author starts with basic navigation and an explanation of the tools. Here are sections on the standard photo editing functions, such as moving, re-sizing, selecting, re-coloring, drawing, and filtering. Layers are an important feature in Elements and the author did an outstanding job of explaining them and extending my working knowledge of them. Photomerging and advanced processing are explained well. I feel that I have a good understanding of Elements 8, after reading this book for the first time, and I expect to re-read this book many more times, as I grow ready to improve my expertise.

This is an excellent guide that hand-holds the user with excellent examples to help growth from a novice introduction to a more expert understanding of how to use the powerful tools in Photoshop Elements 8.

A (Outstanding)

The book probably deserves an A+ Awesome, but I hesitate to be overenthusiastic, possibly because Elements 8 is so complex, and I know it will take a long time before I feel like an expert. But this book will help me get there.

Final Words

I like this book and plan to read it many times. I imagine that I will be learning to use Elements for many years. I intend to read a number of books to help me learned, but this book will remain at the core of my photo-editing library.
